Mental Health Awareness Month

Article by Eva Fondevilla-Welch

Every year during the first full week of October, communities observe Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) to educate the public and advocate for accessible care. Established by Congress in 1990, this week highlights that conditions such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and PTSD are common medical issues rather than personal failures. By having open conversations, MIAW encourages early intervention and promotes community empathy.
