Being thoughtful doesn’t always have to be costly. If you think about it, getting a gift that costs less is not that hard. Besides it's the thought that counts. Here are some simple and affordable ideas:
1. DIY Gifts
Giving handmade gifts has always been lovely and makes the person feel special. Bake cookies, write a love letter note, make a card, or make a photo album. These little gestures tell the other person how much you care.
2. Plan a Fun Activity
That experience is more valuable than a material thing sometimes. Watch a movie together, make a home-cooked meal, or do a chore such as babysitting or mowing the grass.
3. One-Month Subscriptions
A short subscription to a streaming service or an application is a wonderful gift. Consider giving music, TV, or even something wild!
4. Plants
That could be a plant like a succulent – compact, but will not go bad soon, and can look beautiful. There’s nothing like the pleasant gift of a bouquet of flowers with a nice pot included – and if you know where to shop, it won’t even break the bank.
5. Something Personalized
You can give personal things such as mugs or notebooks but they do not necessarily have to be costly. They’re a great way to make an ordinary gift seem special.
6. Books or Journals
Some people like a good book while others want a nice journal, either way, it’s always welcome. Add a sweet note within to ensure that it becomes even more personal.
7. Snack Packs
Prepare a basket with only their favorite kinds of foods. It is low cost, easy, and appears as if you care about them.

December is home to many major holidays for many different demographics. The big two are Christmas and Hanukkah. There is another important holiday that falls right at the beginning of December. The International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) falls on December 3rd annually. This day was established in 1992 by United Nations General Assembly Resolution 47/3. It was created with the intention of promoting awareness and understanding about disability issues throughout the world. The theme for IDPD 2024 is "Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future." This theme places emphasis on the importance of allowing people with disabilities to make decisions about their own futures and lives. In honor of this holiday and with the help of my friends at the library, I have composed a list of the library's favorite young adult books featuring characters with disabilities:
The Many Half-Lived Lives of Sam Sylvester by Maya Macgregor - Autism
Percy Jackson Series by Rick Riordan - ADHD, Dyslexia
One for All by Lillie Lainoff - POTS, Vertigo
Gallant by Victoria Schwab - Mutism
Love from A to Z by S.K. Ali - Multiple Sclerosis
Five Feet Apart by Rachael Lippincott - Cystic fibrosis
All the Right Reasons by Bethany Mangle - Ehlers-Dalos Syndrome
How We Roll by Natasha Friend - Alopecia, amputee
Everything, Everything, by Nichola Yoon - Severe Combined Immunodeficiency or SCID
Brave Enough by Kati Gardner - Cancer Amputee
The Gentleman's Guide to Vide & Virtue by Mackenzi Lee - epilepsy
