The Courtesy Cart

Article by Hannah

Many necessities are items many individuals either do not have access to or can not obtain. The Courtesy Cart at the Mustang Public Library is a project that aims to help fight this throughout our community. The cart is located in the Teen Zone and contains school supplies and many day to day items for anyone to take as needed. The cart offers toothpaste, body wash, menstrual products, shampoo, conditioner, canned goods, notebooks, pens, and more. Everything available is free and whatever the situation may be, items on the Courtesy Cart are to take with no judgement or questions attached. The Courtesy Cart is a simple project that plays a difference in many people's lives. If you have any inquiries or would like to donate to the Courtesy Cart, you can do so by talking to the front desk or by emailing sbarnard@cityofmustang.org. Special thanks to Andrew VanDyke for building the library new courtesy carts which helps keep this cause going!

Winter Photography

Article by CJ

Winter is such a beautiful time of the year and what better way to remember the season’s elegance than to do some wintery photography. Here's some tips, tricks, and places to get some amazing pictures for your cold season album.

  • Use the snow to stabilize your phone. I know it might seem weird at first but if you use your phone to take photos like I do then you know how hard it can be to get a picture with you and your friends in frame. To combat this I like to use some snow and pack it around so it stands up and then set the camera on a timer so I have time for my friends to pose or throw some snow into the air.
  • Adding some contrast into your photos. With the white snow, dull brown trees, and the early dark skies, it can be hard to get pictures to really pop when there's no contrast to the background and foreground so try adding some colors into the scenery or your outfits to make the subject really stand out.
  • Using areas with waters to take your pictures. Water in photography has always been big in the world and with the winter season you could work with water in many ways. You could use it as the main subject of your photo as it is icy or you could use it to capture the reflections of your subjects to make them stand out more. The water can do whatever you want it to do, you just have to find out how you want to use it.

And before I end my section here I am inviting all of the readers to participate in a friendly photography competition. To enter, scan the QR code, fill out all of the necessary forms, and don’t forget to add the file of your best or favorite photos that you’ve taken this winter season.

And with that…Get out there, Take amazing pictures, and Have Fun!!!
