Prices Then and Now

Article by Eva

20 dollars doesn't go nearly as far as it used to these days. Sometimes it's easy to forget how much things were just 40 years ago. Do any of these prices shock you ?

If any of these prices have you shocked or intrigued then here are some books for you. The Mustang Public Library has several Y.A. fiction books that touch on inflation and financial literacy, a few examples are the Money Club by Fion Lowe, and Money Hungry by Sharon.G.Flank.

Mustang Public Library

Article by Hannah

Compared to our current day, a lot has changed since the 1980s. New technology, fashion trends, and lifestyles emerged, replacing the old with the new. One thing that has changed significantly since the 1980s is the Mustang Public Library.

  • History

The Mustang Public Library was officially established on April 1, 1980 as the Mustang Municipal Library (Cityofmustang.org, n.d). Initially, the library was located in a museum, but it was moved to a building on State Highway 152 later on. Throughout the 1980s, the library moved around multiple locations. In fact, the library wasn't located at the Mustang Town Center until 2002.

  • Patronage

Additionally, the patronage of the library would've been significantly less than it is today. According to the Oklahoma Historical Society, the population of Mustang was around 7,500 in 1980. Today, the population of Mustang is estimated to be over 20,000.
