Brainfuse

Article by Hannah

As the weather gets chillier and seasons grow colder, finals season is also just around the corner. Trying to study for tough topics and subjects can often be a challenging task. While there are many great resources, like Quizlet and Khan Academy, that do a great job at teaching and helping with memorization, sometimes we may still need some extra help. Brainfuse is a resource offered by the Mustang Public Library that can help you prepare for those tough topics. Brainfuse is an online educational platform that provides live tutoring, homework help, a writing lab, and more. Furthermore, Brainfuse also offers lessons and flashcard creators that can help you study. The platform has lessons spanning from elementary to college! They even have lessons over life skills that can be used in your daily lives or in the workforce. Live tutors are available online from 1 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. daily through the Brainfuse website. In addition to this, you are capable of sending in questions or written papers, and a tutor will be able to give you feedback within 24 hours. While studying for finals is often a daunting task, Brainfuse can help make it easier!

Teen Kickback

Article by Braxton

The Teen Kickback program is a monthly activity that allows teens to just relax. It's a chance to relax, socialize, play video games, and eat food. They have three computers, a Nintendo Switch, and an Oculus VR Headset. The program also gives you access to snacks and drinks, limited per person. The Kickback program was named by the President of TLC, me, who also happens to volunteer every week! I as well as many other people will always be in attendance ready to chat! Come to a Kickback program to learn the people around you and just have fun!

The Emily Wilde Series

Article by Trinity

November and December are the coziest months, perfect for cozy fantasy books. The Emily Wilde Series by Heather Fawcett is a popular choice and the ideal autumn trilogy. With faeries, magical dogs, academia, and quaint snowy towns, its charm is irresistible.

The first book, Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries, introduces the grumpy Cambridge Professor Emily Wilde and her lovable dog, Shadow. Her goal is to write an encyclopedia of faeries, but her plans are disrupted when her dashing academic rival, Wendall Bambleby, appears.

The second book, my favorite, follows Emily as she maps the Faerie Realm with Wendall while navigating her complex feelings for him and dealing with his family troubles.

The final book sets Emily and Wendall fully in the Faerie realm, with them navigating court politics and trying to solve a deadly curse put upon the land.

The books themselves are written like an academic journal, so be ready for intriguing footnotes and complicated words.

One of my favorite parts about the series is the faerie lore, as many modern fantasy books have the fae as purely humanoid, but the Emily Wilde Series has a wide array of faeries with many being far more animalistic. Another thing I love about the series is the locations. Whether it be the comforting halls of Cambridge, a dusty library, or the snowy village of Hrafnsvik, the locations are the epitome of the cold months of November and December. The charming romance grows from a sideplot to a mainplot and is done wonderfully, with both Emily and Wendall growing right along with it. Truly, there is no better trilogy to start the holiday season off with.
